MSc in Naval Architecture
I did my MSc at USP's Department
of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering. My Master's thesis was
on the development and real-life application of a PC-based simulator of
ship manoeuvres. The work was part of a project commissioned to USP by
the Port Authorities aiming at reducing restrictions of operation on a
problematic terminal in the Port
of Santos which is affected by strong currents. By simulating
critical manoeuvres we were able to pinpoint dangerous conditions of
operation, and actually issue recommendations reducing restricted
periods by as much as 50% without compromising safety. The thesis
received maximum grades from all five examiners.
My Master's studies were initially financed by FAPESP, and then by my employer USP.
