Professional Experience
USP, Department of Naval Architecture and
Ocean Engineering
In February 1987 I took a full-time lectureship in Marine and Ocean
Engineering at the Department I had graduated from. After completing my doctorate in London, and conducting a post-doctoral work there, I resumed my
academic post at USP. The position involves teaching as well as the
developing of pure and applied research in Engineering. Applied
research is conducted in close collaboration with the industry, with
major partners including Petrobras
(Brazilian Oil Co.), the Brazilian Navy,
and the State of São Paulo Port and Harbour Co.. My
participation in previous projects includes the development and
application of an IBM-PC-based digital simulator
of ship manoeuvres, the conceptual design of a deep-water hydrodynamic
test facility, and the dynamic analysis of compliant offshore platforms
of Roseau type. More recently (after coming back) I've been involved in
a series of research projects in the field of Nonlinear Dynamics
applied to the motions of ocean vehicles.
